Western Racing Series Car Construction

 

Rules

 

 

1)    Any American or foreign car with minimum 87” to

    

    maximum 101” wheelbase. ABSOLUTELY NO

    

    UNIBODY CARS!

 

2)    Bodies:

 

A)   Stock appearing molded plastic noses required

    

     except at Open Comp events.

 

B)   Nose pieces to extend a maximum of 46” from

    

     center of hub to farthest point forward.

 

C)  All cars must have a roll at top of fender, door &

    

    quarter panel. No sharp edges. Roll must go

    

    from side up over deck.

 

D)  Minimum ground clearance 2”.

 

E)   Floorboards and firewall minimum .040 thick

    

    aluminum or steel.

 

F)   Drivers seat must remain in the same general

    

     location as the design of the car it is depicting. ie.

    

     any conventional left hand drive car.

 

G)  Minimum 3 windshield bars mandatory.

 

H)  No fins or raised lips allowed along entire length

    

     of car. Body line must be a smooth, even line

    

     from front to rear.

 

 I)      Neatly painted or vinyl numbers minimum 18” tall

    

     on sides and roof, and 6” numbers front & rear

    

     required.

 

J)    Skid pan to protect engine and trans okay, not to

    

     extend beyond drivers seat.

 

K)   Maximum height if body sides not to exceed 35”

    

     from ground to top of side. Max height at rear of

    

     deck 36”. Back end of body not to extend more

    

     than 48” from center of rear hub to end of quarter

    

     panel. Max width at top of deck 72” at widest

    

     point. Max spoiler length 68” x 11” wide. Max

    

     body width 80” at widest point. All measurements

    

     in this paragraph have 1” tolerance.

 

          L)    Minimum 11” opening at drivers window if car            

               has roof on it.

 

3)    Chassis:

 

A)   No aluminum frames or front clips allowed.

 

B)   Roll cages must be constructed of minimum .065

    

     x 1-1/4” tubing in main cage area, with halo,

    

     pillars and main bar behind driver .095 x 1-3/8”

    

     minimum.

 

C)  Roll cage must be welded to frame and be above

    

     drivers head with a minimum of 3 door bars on

    

     drivers side not including main frame rail.

 

4)    Engines:

 

A)   No rotary engines allowed, 4 cylinders maximum. No turbo or    super chargers.

 

B)   Maximum 2400cc as manufactured OEM.

 

C)  Block casting must be mass produced for

    

     highway use.

 

D)  Engine must be in front of driver, max setback

    

     not to exceed 10% of wheelbase measured from

    

     #1 sparkplug to center of right front upper

    

     balljoint (1” tolerance).

 

5)    Fuel systems:

 

A)   Racing approved fuel cell required maximum 22

    

     gallon capacity. Must be in minimum .040 steel or

    

     aluminum can to meet safety requirements.

 

B)   Gas or methanol allowed.

 

6)    Transmissions:

 

A)   Must have minimum 2 forward gears and 1

    

     reverse.

 

B)   Cars must be self starting with starter in good

    

     working order.

 

C)  Scatter shield required on flywheel mounted

    

     clutches.

 

7)    Seats:

 

A)   Approved racing seat required.

 

B)   Approved 5 point racing harness

 

C)  Seat and belts must be securely fastened to cage

    

     and/or frame.

 

8)    Wheels and Tires:

 

A)   Max tire width 13” as marked by manufacturer.

 

B)   Approved racing wheels required.

 

 

 

9)    General:

 

A)   Minimum 2-1/2# fire extinguisher or on-board fire

    

     system MANDATORY.

 

 

B)   Track DBA rules apply.

 

C)  Western Racing Series Director reserves the

    

     right to inspect any car at any time.
